The Lightning Thief

Come see the Middle School show!

As the half-blood son of a Greek god, Percy Jackson has newly-discovered powers he can’t control, a destiny he doesn’t want, and a mythology textbook’s worth of monsters on his trail. When Zeus’s master lightning bolt is stolen and Percy becomes the prime suspect, he has to find and return the bolt to prove his innocence and prevent a war between the gods. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the thief. He must travel to the Underworld and back; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and come to terms with the father who abandoned him. Adapted from the best-selling book The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and featuring a thrilling original rock score, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is an action-packed mythical adventure “worthy of the gods” (Time Out New York).

Rutka, A New Musical

This Thursday, March 3 through Saturday, March 5, our students will perform Scenes and Songs from Rutka, a New Musical in Progress, directed by Kyle Pleasant.

RUTKA is a powerful new indie-rock musical about a young teen and her friends trying to grow up in a world gone mad around them. It’s based on the internationally-acclaimed book RUTKA’S NOTEBOOK, an actual diary left behind by 14-year old Rutka Laskier in the Jewish Ghetto in Bedzin, Poland, in 1943. RUTKA tells the visceral story of a young teen and her friends, trying to live life and find hope, resilience, and resistance, while facing the challenges of the world around them. It’s a show that feels modern and raw, with a groundbreaking indie-rock musical score. With the show still in development, PPAS audiences will get the first-ever look at this new musical as it begins its journey.

Please order tickets and watch the show!

Spring Musical

We are excited to announce that Mr. Kyle Pleasant will be directing a spring musical production!

Due to COVID constraints, we will not be producing a full blown production, but rather a smaller staged workshop of a new musical in progress.  We often do this sort of work in our New Works Lab with Drama 4 students and it can be as exciting and exhilarating as a fully staged production.  There is no title yet, but we will use Musical Workshop as a working title for now.

Auditions for the Musical Workshop will be held virtually by video submission.  Record your name, grade, and major along with 32 bars of a pop or musical theater song that best shows your range.

Email your video audition to director Kyle Pleasant.

Submission Deadline:  Monday, January 31st at 10:00 AM.

Rehearsals will begin February 2nd, Monday-Friday 4PM-8PM.  Saturdays 10AM-2PM.  Performances: March 3rd, 4th and 5th.

Any questions?  Email Mr. Pleasant.

Spring Slam

It’s that time of year again. What time, you ask? Time for THE SPRING SLAM!
I’m Mr. Simon — I work for Rosie’s Theater Kids and the PPAS High School MT program, and have enjoyed directing The SLAM for the past couple of years.
The SLAM is for all kinds of talent: song, dance, comedy, monologue, poetry reading, etc. and will be Friday, April 30th, 2020 @ 7:00p. There will be a tech rehearsal prior to this, TBD once auditions are concluded.
All pieces in the slam should aim to be around 3 minutes, no more than 4, and should be SCHOOL APPROPRIATE.
Auditions are this Thurs/Fri, April 8,9 from 4:30-7:30. If you have something you’d like to share, please sign up for an audition slot here BY WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7. If there is more than one performer involved, only ONE person should sign up for a slot — there will be an opportunity on the signup sheet to list any other performers.
Once I have the full schedule for auditioners, I will send out an email with the schedule and a zoom link.
Thanks!
-Mr. Simon
